SUMMARY:Training to facilitate a dialogue
DESCRIPTION:This training is aimed at people who have attended at least three dialogues\, and who would like to learn to facilitate a dialogue. Ever wonder how you can encourage an engaging conversation about sensitive topics? How you can ask the right questions\, and provide a structure that allows others to open their hearts? You will learn it during this training! To sign up\, click the red button above.  \n \nThe purpose of facilitating a dialogue is to stimulate thinking\, growth\, and change that lead to action. The more you practice being curious and asking questions with an open heart\, the more you will get positive results from your conversations with others. \nThe training\nWe invite you to take part in this English-language training session\, where you will practice facilitating a dialogue and learn about our guiding principles. During the training\, you will get to know what an engaging dialogue is\, and how it is structured. A dialogue follows four steps: 1) getting acquainted 2) sharing and exchanging one’s experiences 3) envisioning new possibilities 4) formulating concrete actions. The online training consists of a video you watch before the training and practicing facilitating in a Zoom-meeting. \nDialogue Skills\n \nIn addition\, we will be examining several skills that you can incorporate into your daily conversations with friends\, family\, or colleagues. The skills needed for  productive conversations involve committed listening and asking the ‘right’ questions. To practice these skills in-depth we will focus on the following: \n\nLearning the method of appreciative inquiry.\nWorking on the three essential skills for a dialogue: (1) committed listening\, (2) asking the right questions\, and (3) giving constructive feedback.\n\nNext step\nAfter this training session\, you can start practice facilitating a dialogue together with experienced people in the Dialogue House. You can practice running a table with a more experienced dialogue facilitator together\, or come and get further practice at one of our Dialogue House events (held the first Monday of each month at Maliebaan 45). \nCosts\nThe costs for the training are: 10€ for students/U-pas holders\, 50€ for non-students and 150€ for organizations. If money is a problem we are happy to discuss an alternative contribution! Please transfer to NL43 INGB 0007 6336 31 for Stichting Utrecht in Dialoog and note Online Dialoguetraining. \nMore\nWhat is a dialogue?

SUMMARY:Online: Together after the crisis
DESCRIPTION:What effect has the corona crisis had on your social life? Share your experiences and listen to others! Online via Zoom due to the most recent corona regulations.\n\n\nDuring the crisis\, you were discouraged to meet your neighbours\, family members and friends for quite a long time. Perhaps\, you were able to keep in touch over the phone\, video call or “whatsapping”. Did you feel like your contact with other people has changed during this period? How did you experience this way of communicating? Did you feel lonely or connected? Considering this new form of contact with social distancing\, what would you like to keep\, change and leave behind afterwards? How do you see us all coming out of the crisis together? \nIn this dialogue\, we will focus on how the corona crisis affected our social lives\, whether it was possible to keep or adapt our contact\, or if it resulted in feelings of loneliness and isolation. We will share our personal experiences during the crisis\, and visualize together how we can remain connected as we move out of the crisis. \nEmerging Stronger from the Crisis\nCorona crisis has suddenly changed many things in our lives; we had to continue our work or studies from home\, perhaps lost our jobs and weren’t allowed to see our family and friends. Since June\, our lives started adjusting to a ‘new normal’. How did you experience the crisis? What changed in your daily lives? Are your views and values changing somehow? Which of these changes do you wish to maintain moving forward\, and how can you make that happen? \nThis dialogue is part of the series Emerging Stronger from the Crisis >>> \nImportant notes\n\nThis event will start at 19:30 until 22:00.\nThese are online dialogues and will be held via Zoom.\n\nWhat is a dialogue?\n\nA dialogue is a conversation in which free exchange of thoughts and ideas take place leading to new perspectives and insights. It is a collective way of sense-making based upon real listening and speaking from your heart. \nMore on what a dialogue is >>> \n\n  \nThis dialogue is part of the series Emerging Stronger from the Crisis and is organized in partnership with the Kargadoor. The series is part of the project Online Erbij Horen in Crisistijd (in Dutch).

On the registration form you can let us know if you want to participate live or via Zoom. \nHow did the Corona pandemic affect our relationship with the environment? SUMMARY:Diversity Management
DESCRIPTION:Diversity has increasingly been an attention-grabbing topic\, especially in multicultural societies as a result of various flows of migration from different countries and cultures for long years. The concept has also been promoted by many public and private institutions. Not only to create inclusive spaces for people with different attributes but also to be able to increase the funds and visibility. Whereas the scientific literature and policymakers tell that the management of cultural diversity enhances the organisations’ performances and profits\, some researches show that organisations are far from having concrete diversity policies and strategies. The situation in the non-profit sector is much more ambiguous. However\, the increasing diversity depending upon the constant migration\, especially in the large cities\, enforce to ask the non-profit voluntary organisations the question of how to manage ‘diversity’. \nThus\, as a master student in Anthropology and Development Studies at Radboud University\, Ceren Tunali tried to reply to this question and explore more about the perceptions of non-profit voluntary organisations towards the ‘diversity’ by conducting a research project on this issue. On the evening of 18th August\, she will be presenting a short policy recommendation obtained as a result of this research. Join us to discuss and share your insights on the question of how to manage and enhance diversity in non-profit organisations! \nProgram\n19:30 Welcome\, introduction and presentation of the research\n19:45 Presentation of the Policy Brief and Q&A\n20:15 Discussion within groups \n\nWhy do we need to manage ‘diversity’?\nHow do we manage diversities within our organisations?\nWhat kind of challenges do we encounter while managing diversity and how do we overcome these challenges?\nWhat do we expect from a well managed diversity? What are the dreams?\n\n21:45 Final remarks\n22:00 End

You will learn it during this workshop! To sign up\, click the red button above.  \nBecause of the measures relating to the coronavirus\, the training of 23 March can be followed online. After registration you will receive the login details prior to the training. \nCosts\nThe costs for the training are: 10€ for students/U-pas holders\, 50€ for volunteers and 150€ for organizations.\nIf money is a problem we are happy to discuss an alternative contribution! \nMore\nWhat is a dialogue?

SUMMARY:Talking about Racism?
DESCRIPTION:Is racism just an American issue? Or do you also experience it in the Netherlands\, in your home country or in social media? Is the worldwide perspective on racism changing after the death of George Floyd? Are the demonstrations against racism and police brutality helping the cause? Are we doing enough to eradicate racism? Could we do something better? How do we feel about statues and street names of colonizers\, politicians and writers from the slavery period? \nEveryone is welcome and participation is for free! You can register via the red button and let us know if you need help logging into Zoom. We welcome people without prior experience with Zoom or online dialogues to join 30 mins earlier. \nBlack Lives Matter\nDo you experience racial discrimination or police brutality? How do you then react? Who and what supports you on fighting racism and violence? Do you feel that the current demonstrations and press headlines are leading to changes of perspectives? Is your own approach to racism changing now? How do you think racism should be approached worldwide and in your hometown? Should we talk and demonstrate more actively to fight it? Should we fight it differently? How should we do it? \n \nSchedule\n19.30 Opening and introduction to the subject \n19:45 Online dialogue in groups of 6 participants \n21.15 Plenary session to share findings \n21:30 Conclusion \nIf you need more information on how to use Zoom\, please enter the Zoom space 30 minutes before the start of the event. \nHow does an online dialogue work?\n\nA dialogue is a conversation\, where people talk to each other about experiences\, visions and possible actions for change. SUMMARY:Workshop: Impact of Dialogue
DESCRIPTION:‘What is the impact of Dialogues?’ many of you might have thought at some point. That’s what went through Maria’s head\, too\, when she was preparing for her Master thesis. \nMaria Chatzidionysiou\, our Greek intern from Utrecht University\, with her background in Early Childhood Education and her specialty in ‘Inclusive Societies’ from Utrecht University\, saw the opportunity where involvement  of the Dialogues’ methodology and education practice could be combined. Maria envisioned a possibility where Dialogues could be used as a tool against social polarisation and in favor of social inclusion in education and beyond. \nBut… who knows better than the people that are already engaged in Dialogues? What are the Dialogues participants\, young or educators themselves\, thinking about it and how do they define polarisation and inclusion in the first place? With these questions in mind\, the research ‘The impressions of Dialogues and their educational use’ came to existence. \nThis Workshop Dialogues theme is inspired by the results of Maria’s research and in partnership with UNION. We will focus on how everyone experiences polarisation in society (segregation\, discrimination) and the inclusion of people (feeling of belonging). What role Dialogues play in dealing with these issues in our work\, our schools\, around our family’s table? \nProgram\n19:30-19:45 Welcome and background in UiD- context\n19:45-20:15 Background\, approach and results of the research\n20:15-20:30 Questions & Answers\n20:30-21:30 Conversation on research questions in groups\n21:30-21:45 Harvest results and conclusions\n21:45-22:00 Last words and thanks \nLog in together with us on June 10 and know what the interviews of 20 individuals involved in Dialogue events melted down to be! Sign up using the red button above. See you all online!

SUMMARY:Online Dialogue: Europe
DESCRIPTION:On May 9th\, Europe Day\, we will commemorate Europe. The Europe project will complete 70 years this year\, and we ask\, what does Europe mean 70 years later? In an online dialogue\, we will share our experiences with Europe\, what is important to us\, and how we can move forward with it\, and what can we do? Everyone is welcome! The fall of the wall in 1989 surprised many and gave hope. In 2020\, the Europe project will be on edge due to a worldwide Coronavirus crisis. What about 70 years later with the values of Europe: Democracy\, Human Rights and Independent Justice? Are we able to work in Europe on the major challenges of our time: the Corona crisis\, the health crisis\, the climate crisis\, migration\, and the growing poverty / wealth contradictions? What is at stake? Democracy\, Human Rights\, Independent Justice\, Health\, Solidarity? And what future are we going to work on? On which topics have we managed to work together in Europe on the major challenges of our time: the health crisis\, the climate crisis\, migration\, poverty and inequality? What are the similarities and differences between our experiences and stories? What makes the European cooperation worthwhile for you? What values are at stake? Democracy\, Human Rights\, Independent Justice\, Health\, Solidarity? What future do we see for Europe\, how can we work together\, and what do we need for this? \nRobert Schuman said: “The European collaboration and integration shall not and cannot become an economic and technical enterprise: it needs a soul\, the knowledge of its historical roots and of its responsibilities\, in the past and in the future\, and a political willingness that serves that same ideal.” \nHow does an online dialogue work?\n\nA dialogue is a conversation\, where people talk to each other about experiences\, visions and possible actions for change. Join in and sign up via the red button! \nNew rules of conduct\nWe now live in a time with different rules of conduct. Where shaking hands stood as the national standard of how we treat each other\, this is now prohibited and we must avoid social contact as much as possible: the public space is not yet locked down\, but much is closed. We are not allowed to hoard\, but you do want to have your necessities at home. We have to look at each other but now at a distance. Physical contact is no longer possible and this contact must shift to online. How do you deal with these new rules? Are you comfortable with that\, do you stay at home or do you keep getting together with people you are attached to? Are you looking for other ways to keep in touch and to see your neighbors? And how do you deal with people who deal with the new rules differently from you? What are you doing then? Do you start a conversation\, do you let it go\, do you speak to people? What have you experienced\, what is the outcome and how do you feel about it? Share your experiences\, listen to those of others and discover what works. \nProgram\nProgram:\n19:00: Log-in to the platform\n19:30: Overview and Introductions\n19:45: Dialogue in groups of 6-8 people\n21:15: Review and Share Insight\n21:30: Announcements and Informal Discussion \n\nThe Dialogue House\nThe Dialogue House is a gathering place for people who are passionate about dialogue. SUMMARY:Kargadoor online: Freedom
DESCRIPTION:Due to the Coronacrisis\, our upcoming dialogues will be online\, at least for now. It takes some getting used to\, but give it a try! With the application Zoom\, which can easily be downloaded\, it´s actually not that hard. Register now and priorly we will send you a link for login. If you have any questions\, please feel free to contact us! \nFreedom\nMay 5th marks the day that the Netherlands has been an independent country for 75 years. Liberation Day (Bevrijdingsdag) is a time to celebrate the victory of not remaining under occupation\, as many other European countries. Under the new circumstances\, COVID-19 came to the lives of everyone and ‘freedom’ is restricted more than ever before. Where do we go? How often? For which reason? Who do we meet and touch? These became questions between health and sickness\, life and death. At the same time\, other countries still haven’t managed to get ceasefire: still\, war is ravaging families and cities around the world. Also\, there are raising questions about the usage of personal data from governments and privacy concens are being raised even for the period after the pandemic. \nBetween those conflicted facts\, what do we define as freedom? What role does media play in portraying the world’s situation and our ideas around liberation\, unity and freedom? What brings peace to you in these isolation days and how do we imagine a better future for the world? \nDo you want to share your experiences and dreams and hear those from others? Sign up using the red button on top of the page. Your neighbors\, friends and relatives are also welcome to join! \nTheme of Belonging\nWe are social beings; not only do we want to be who were\, we also want to belong to a group. Where do you feel most at home? How actively are you looking for new groups and circles? What do you need to find those\, or expand them? At the central library we are going to discuss ‘belonging’ to gather new insights and find connection. \nProgram\n19:30 Introduction and overview of the theme\n19:45 Dialogue in small groups\n21:15 Sharing insights with each other\n21:30 End of dialogue \nIf you need more information on how to use Zoom\, please enter the Zoom space 30 minutes before the start of the event. \nRead more about how to use Zoom >>>  \nWhat is a dialogue?\nA dialogue table is a place where six to eight people come together to talk about a specific theme. A trained dialogue facilitator guides the conversation and makes sure that everyone is heard and everyone gets involved. In a dialogue the goal is not to win others about to your perspective\, but to listen with an open mind to their experiences. \nRead more about dialogues >>>

SUMMARY:Online Dialogue House: Family
DESCRIPTION:Due to the Coronavirus outbreak\, we’re hosting our dialogues online for the next several weeks. This does take some getting used to\, but it is absolutely not difficult at all! We use the platform Zoom\, which is easy to download! Join us and register. You will receive a link to log in prior to the event. Any questions? Get in touch with us! \n \nWhat does family mean to you? What role does it play in your life? And how are you dealing with the changing ways of contact in these times? Do you have to worry about your family\, or do you get support from them? On Thursday\, April 9th\, we will discuss this theme with each other through an online dialogue. \nFamily\nFamily is important to many people\, although for some\, it is a difficult part of life. What role does family play for you? Do you feel connected to them? Are there people who you grew up with\, who know you through-and-through\, and people who you still speak to often? Maybe you grew up in a tight-knit family\, or in another circumstance where there was little contact with family. For you\, is family a place where you belong? Or maybe you have little contact with them? In the situation around the Coronavirus\, much of our contact has to take place at a distance\, including contact with family\, which is changing as a result. This can lead to worries. For instance\, how do we deal with the elderly in our family in these times? How are you dealing with this? What concerns are present for you? Or are you getting support from contact with family in these times? As you can see\, there is a lot to discuss around this theme\, and so\, we will talk to each other about Family in this online dialogue. \nProgram\n10:00 Log In and Reception\n10:30 Break up into Dialogue groups\n12:00 End of Dialogue \nOnline Dialogues: How does it work?\nDue to the circumstances with the coronavirus and the guidelines of the RIVM\, no physical dialogues will be hosted by Utrecht in Dialogue in the near future. SUMMARY:Kargadoor online: Me and my body
DESCRIPTION:The Kargadoor dialogue goes online for the first time because of the Corona crisis. Going online in a dialogue takes some getting used to\, but it is not difficult at all! Join in and sign up. You will receive a link in advance to login to zoom. \nDoes the relationship with your body change because of the Corona crisis\, now that we keep more social distance and are more housebound? How do you experience your body\, which taboos play a role and where do they come from? Do we feel comfortable and safe to talk about it? Share your experiences\, desires\, insights and actions in this first online dialogue. \nMe and my Body\nFrom the moment we came into the world\, we started getting clues and rules around our bodies and it’s interaction with the public sphere. Where exposure is permitted and where it is not\, which dress codes are expected from different locations\, which norms and traditions exist around cloths on specific occasions\, but also ideas of what we can and cannot wear based on our sex and appearence. \nEven though equal representation of bodies\, body positivity\, and inclusion of different abilities and disabilities are being in the center of the public discussion more than ever before\, how much do we judge our bodies and how much do others still shame them? What kind of taboos exist around them and what role media play forming the ideas around our bodies? Do we feel comfortable or safe talking about them? \nDo you want to share your experiences and struggles and hear those of others? Sign up using the red button on top of the page.

Are they your childhood habits or religious rules? Do you have a food allergy? Do you find it important to make healthy choices or do you opt for convenience? We’re going to explore this together. Are there things you want to change about what you eat? What is your ideal and how can you bring this ideal a little closer? \nProgramme\n17.30                Communal meal\n18.30 – 19.00 Reception for participants who are not eating together\n19.00 – 20.30 Talking to each other around tables with 6 to 8 people\n20.30 – 21.00 Catching up \nTalking to each other\nIn Zuilen\, we will be entering into regular dialogue with each other about food and health in 2020. In a dialogue you tell about your own experiences and listen to the stories of others. You share dreams of the future and what you can do to bring it closer. The conversations will take place at dialogue tables of 6 to 8 people under the guidance of dialogue facilitators trained by Utrecht in Dialogue. Everyone will be addressed\, heard and is welcome. \nWhat is a dialogue?\nIn a dialogue\, people talk and listen to each other about what matters. We listen attentively to each other’s personal experiences and try to understand each other. We do this in small groups with a trained dialogue facilitator. By talking and listening to other people’s stories we learn with each other and we move forward! \n  \n
